Role Overview
As Director, Product Design, you shape the future of our platform by driving strategic initiatives and setting a high standard of excellence across our Revenue product design efforts (getting customers, managing leads, communicating) — one where AI is a core part of how the team designs and ships, not a bolt-on skill. You ensure a cohesive and impactful experience for our service professionals (our Pros) — including the AI-powered and agentic experiences that are increasingly central to that product surface. You collaborate closely with Design, Product, and Engineering leaders to develop best-in-class products and innovative solutions that meet current customer needs while laying the foundation for long-term growth, using AI to expand what the team can explore, prototype, and validate along the way. You report to the VP of Design and partner with executive design leadership to establish best practices — including how the org uses AI to increase design velocity and quality — mentor design leaders, and elevate design strategy across HCP. While this is a leadership role, you stay close to the craft: personally prototyping ideas, especially with AI-assisted tools, to set the bar rather than direct it from a distance. Our team is passionate, empathetic, hard-working, and above all else focused on improving the lives of our service professionals (our Pros). Our success is their success.
What you do each day:
- Define design strategy for designated product domains across Revenue, including how AI-driven features and agentic workflows fit into the Pro experience
- Collaborate with key cross-functional partners across Product, Engineering, and Business Operations
- Strategize on product design roadmaps and priorities with executive leaders
- Ensure strong design practices from concept through launch to deliver high-quality product experiences
- Champion the adoption of AI-assisted design and prototyping tools across the team while staying hands-on in prototyping ideas to increase speed and quality, explore direction, and set a high standard of craft
- Model strong communication and influence across a diverse group of stakeholders
- Leverage data, research, and AI-assisted analysis to establish clear points of view on product direction
- Partner with product design leaders to ensure a single, cohesive user experience across all product areas, including consistent patterns for AI-powered features
- Spearhead critical initiatives to elevate design processes, craft, and execution standards — reimagining workflows wherever AI can create real leverage
- Mentor, inspire, and grow members of the broader product design organization, including their fluency with AI tools and modern design practice
Qualifications:
- 12+ years of experience successfully shipping digital products and features end-to-end
- 5+ years of experience directly managing and leading teams of product designers
- Bachelor's degree in Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Proven expertise with modern design platforms (i.e. Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and fluency with AI-native tools (e.g. Figma AI, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar)
- Experience working in Agile development environments using collaboration tools (i.e. Jira, Confluence)
- Portfolio URL or PDF showcasing examples of mobile and responsive web product design
- Proven experience driving team efficiency or output quality through the strategic use of AI tools and automation
- Experience designing or overseeing AI-powered product experiences (e.g., chat/agent interfaces, personalization, generative content) is a strong plus
What will help you succeed:
- Expert knowledge of user experience, interaction design, and information architecture across responsive web, iOS, and Android platforms
- A clear point of view on how AI is reshaping product design practice, team structure, and the designer's role — and genuine enthusiasm for evolving your own practice as those norms shift
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building scalable business solutions
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate design rationale and trade-offs around AI-driven features to executive leadership and the C-suite
- Strong project planning, time management, and cross-functional collaboration abilities
- Deep understanding of business outcomes with the ability to leverage data analytics, user testing, and AI-assisted research synthesis to inform design decisions
- Comfort operating with blurred traditional craft boundaries — e.g., designers who prototype in code with AI assistance, or move fluidly between research, UX, and content
- A rich portfolio of active, self-directed exploration showing either an exceptional breadth of cross-functional interests or a profound depth of specialized mastery
- Personal resilience to learn from scratch, unlearn outdated workflows, and thrive in ambiguity as tools and practices keep shifting

Product Design Engineer Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product design engineer in Colorado?
Most product design engineer roles in Colorado require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or product design engineering. The role is not governed by a Colorado state engineering license at the entry or mid level, though engineers who sign off on public-safety work may pursue Professional Engineer registration through the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors. Employers in aerospace and defense often add security clearance eligibility as a practical requirement.
Which companies hire product design engineers in Colorado?
Employers hiring product design engineers in Colorado right now include Apple, Fivetran, and Quantinuum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Colorado's concentration of aerospace, defense, and cleantech firms means many of the most consistent openings come from large systems integrators and hardware-focused manufacturers with long-term Colorado footprints.
Which Colorado cities have the most product design engineer jobs?
Denver, Boulder, and Aurora account for the largest share of product design engineer openings in Colorado. Denver and its metro suburbs drive volume through a dense cluster of aerospace primes, defense contractors, and consumer hardware startups, while Boulder attracts engineering talent for cleantech and precision instruments, and Colorado Springs sees steady demand from defense and space companies with major campuses in the area.
Are there remote product design engineer jobs in Colorado?
Yes, but they're limited, because product design engineering is fundamentally a hands-on role that involves prototyping, lab work, and close coordination with manufacturing floors. About 33% of product design engineer openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be concentrated in the conceptual design, CAD modeling, and documentation phases where physical presence is less critical.
How can I get hired as a product design engineer in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-grad or associate engineer role at one of Colorado's large aerospace or manufacturing employers, several of which run formal early-career programs. Lockheed Martin and Woodward, for example, recruit new graduates into rotational or junior design roles at their Colorado facilities. A strong CAD portfolio, internship experience, and a degree from a Colorado engineering program such as those at CU Boulder or Colorado School of Mines improve a candidate's standing considerably. Adjacent roles in drafting, manufacturing engineering, or quality engineering are also a practical way in.
Where can I find and apply to product design engineer jobs in Colorado?
You can find and apply to product design engineer jobs in Colorado on Migrate Mate, which lists current Colorado openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
