Blooming Design Group is a growing, design-driven company specializing in high-end residential landscape architecture, construction, swimming pools, and outdoor environments throughout Arizona.

As we continue expanding our design and construction capabilities, we are looking to bring structural engineering expertise in-house.

We are seeking an experienced Arizona-registered Professional Engineer (PE) who can take ownership of structural engineering for our projects, including the preparation, review, and sealing of structural documents submitted to local jurisdictions for permitting.

This is an opportunity to help build and shape the structural engineering function within an established and growing design-build organization.

The Position

The Senior Structural Engineer will work directly with our design, drafting, estimating, construction, and leadership teams to provide structural engineering for a wide variety of projects.

Our immediate needs are primarily residential and exterior structures, including:

• Swimming pools and spas
• Retaining walls
• Foundations and footings
• CMU and masonry structures
• Steel structures
• Wood-framed structures
• Patio covers, ramadas, pergolas, and shade structures
• Residential additions and remodels
• Structural modifications to existing homes
• Site and landscape-related structural elements

As Blooming continues to expand, we would like this position to also support larger residential and commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations.
• Develop structural designs using concrete, masonry, steel, and wood.
• Review drawings prepared by Blooming's internal design and drafting teams.
• Provide structural details, specifications, and engineering direction.
• Serve as Engineer of Record where appropriate.
• Sign and seal structural drawings and calculations for jurisdictional permit submittals.
• Respond to plan-review comments and coordinate revisions with permitting jurisdictions.
• Work directly with designers, project managers, estimators, and field construction teams.
• Evaluate existing structures and field conditions.
• Provide practical solutions that balance structural requirements, constructability, aesthetics, and cost.
• Establish internal structural engineering standards, details, calculation methods, and quality-control procedures.
• Help develop Blooming's long-term internal structural engineering capabilities.
• Coordinate with outside engineering consultants when projects require specialized expertise beyond our internal capabilities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• Current Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Arizona.
• Demonstrated experience designing structural systems and preparing/sealing documents for permit.
• Strong knowledge of structural concrete, masonry, steel, wood framing, foundations, and retaining structures.
• Experience working with applicable building codes and structural standards.
• Ability to independently perform calculations and review construction documents.
• Experience responding to jurisdictional plan-review comments.
• Strong understanding of constructability and real-world field conditions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with both designers and construction professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Approximately 5–10+ years of structural engineering experience.
• Experience acting as Engineer of Record on projects in Arizona.
• Experience with swimming pools and aquatic structures.
• Experience with custom residential construction and remodeling.
• Experience with retaining walls and site structures.
• Experience with commercial, multifamily, or other IBC-governed construction.
• Experience designing with reinforced concrete, CMU, structural steel, and wood.
• Familiarity with Arizona municipalities and permitting jurisdictions.
• Experience managing or mentoring engineers, designers, or drafters.
• Interest in helping develop and lead an internal structural engineering department.

We're looking for more than someone who can simply review calculations and stamp drawings.

The right person will be comfortable taking professional ownership of structural design, collaborating with our designers early in the process, and helping develop practical solutions that can move efficiently from concept through engineering, permitting, and construction.

This position would be especially attractive to an experienced engineer who enjoys the technical side of structural engineering but also wants to work closely with designers, builders, and field teams—and have an opportunity to shape how an engineering department operates.

Compensation

Base Salary: $125,000–$155,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Performance-based bonus opportunity available.

Compensation may exceed the stated range for an exceptional candidate with significant Arizona Engineer-of-Record, commercial, and/or structural engineering leadership experience.
