Program Manager Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program manager in Rhode Island?
Most program manager roles in Rhode Island require a bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the industry you want to work in, such as business administration, healthcare management, or engineering. Rhode Island does not issue a state-specific license for program managers, but employers consistently favor candidates who hold a Project Management Professional credential from PMI or a comparable certification. Building experience through project coordinator or analyst roles at Rhode Island's large healthcare systems, defense contractors, or universities is the most common path into the role.
Which companies hire program managers in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring program managers in Rhode Island include Brown University Health, Citizens, and CVS Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's concentration of large healthcare networks, federal defense contractors based in or near Newport, and anchor institutions in Providence means program manager demand stays relatively consistent across industries throughout the year.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most program manager jobs?
The cities with the most program manager openings in Rhode Island are Providence, Johnston, and Rhode Island. Providence drives the largest share of postings as the state's primary business, healthcare, and higher-education hub, while Newport's naval and defense installations account for a strong cluster of defense acquisition and IT program management roles, and surrounding suburban communities like Woonsocket reflect the corporate footprint of large employers headquartered there.
Are there remote program manager jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 40% of program manager openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based, coordination-heavy nature of the work. The program functions most commonly offered as remote or hybrid are IT program management, financial services portfolio oversight, and administrative operations roles, while clinical and defense program manager positions more often require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a program manager in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or program analyst role, which large Rhode Island employers such as CVS Health and Brown University use as pipeline positions for future program managers. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential from PMI gives candidates without a full project history a recognized signal of competency. Rhode Island's healthcare networks also hire administrative coordinators who support program operations directly, and moving laterally from those roles into a junior program manager title is a well-worn path in the state.
Where can I find and apply to program manager jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to program manager jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current Rhode Island openings across industries including healthcare, defense, higher education, and financial services. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to each one.
