Project Accountant Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project accountant in Missouri?
Most project accountant roles in Missouri require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and many employers prefer candidates who are pursuing or have earned CPA licensure through the Missouri State Board of Accountancy. Experience in construction or engineering accounting is a strong differentiator. Familiarity with job costing, WIP schedules, and contract billing practices is expected in most mid-level postings, and proficiency in ERP software is increasingly treated as a baseline requirement.
Which companies hire project accountants in Missouri?
Missouri project accountant roles are posted by nVent, Gilbane, and Mark Andy and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Missouri's deep base of engineering, construction, and manufacturing firms means project accountant openings appear throughout the year rather than concentrated in a single hiring season.
Which Missouri cities have the most project accountant jobs?
St. Louis, Fulton, and Kansas City are the cities with the most project accountant openings in Missouri. Kansas City leads due to its large construction and engineering firm presence, including major contractors and infrastructure consultancies, while St. Louis draws demand from commercial development, healthcare capital projects, and manufacturing headquarters concentrated in the metro.
Are there remote project accountant jobs in Missouri?
Yes, though they represent a smaller share of openings than fully desk-based finance roles. About 100% of project accountant openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the role's frequent need to coordinate with on-site project teams. Functions like financial reporting, invoice review, and budget analysis are the tasks most commonly handled remotely.
How can I get hired as a project accountant in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a staff accountant or accounts payable role at a Missouri construction or engineering firm, then moving into project cost support. Large employers like Burns & McDonnell and Clayco occasionally hire recent accounting graduates into junior project finance roles. Earning your CPA, becoming proficient in a construction ERP like Viewpoint or Sage 300, and building familiarity with AIA billing documents will make a candidate significantly more competitive for a first project accountant position.
Where can I find and apply to project accountant jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to project accountant jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
