Proposal Coordinator Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a proposal coordinator in California?
Most California employers require a bachelor's degree in business, communications, technical writing, or a related field, and there is no state-issued license for this role. Candidates who earn the Association of Proposal Management Professionals Certified Proposal Professional credential strengthen their standing with California's large defense and government contractors. Entry-level coordinators often move in from administrative, marketing coordinator, or technical writing roles and build toward managing full proposal cycles.
Which companies hire proposal coordinators in California?
California proposal coordinator roles are posted by NV5, Rore, and SWA and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of defense primes, large engineering firms, and enterprise technology companies keeps demand for proposal coordinators consistently high across the state.
Which California cities have the most proposal coordinator jobs?
Irvine, San Diego, and Orange have the most proposal coordinator openings in California. Los Angeles and San Diego are driven by the heavy presence of defense contractors and architecture and engineering firms, while the Bay Area's concentration of technology companies and federal agency offices generates a separate and sizable share of RFP-driven hiring.
Are there remote proposal coordinator jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 80% of proposal coordinator openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on document production and writing rather than on-site tasks. Fully remote openings are most common in technology sector proposals, while defense and infrastructure roles more often require at least partial on-site presence for classified or production reasons.
How can I get hired as a proposal coordinator in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a proposal writer or proposal administrator title at large California defense and engineering employers, which regularly onboard candidates who come from marketing coordinator, technical writer, or executive assistant roles. Firms such as SAIC and Parsons run structured onboarding programs that bring in candidates without direct proposal experience. Building a portfolio of writing samples and earning the APMP Foundation credential signals readiness even without formal proposal history.
Where can I find and apply to proposal coordinator jobs in California?
You can find and apply to proposal coordinator jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Search for roles that fit your experience level and target industry, then apply directly to the positions that match.
