Position Summary
The Purchasing Manager manages all aspects of product forecasting, sourcing, purchasing, and inventory functions to meet the company’s short-term and long-term supply chain management/inventory control requirements, while pursuing further cost reductions in our fast-paced manufacturing enterprise. This position will lead the Purchasing team by providing support and training to all Buyers and will facilitate existing Supplier relations and cultivate new partnerships.
Essential functions of the Purchasing Manager
- Manage sourcing, planning, and purchasing activities to ensure timely receipt of materials while meeting quality and cost expectations aligned with business objectives.
- Lead/support Buyers in developing and maintaining supplier contracts and agreements for raw materials, services, and maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) supplies.
- Assist with system optimization and ongoing maintenance of MRP data to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Serve as a key liaison between the organization and suppliers, managing procurement-related communications such as quotations, purchase orders, contracts, and issue resolution.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with suppliers to support performance and reliability.
- Partner with internal departments to proactively identify, escalate, and resolve supplier-related issues.
- Monitor inventory levels within assigned categories and take action to optimize availability while balancing working capital.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to identify and implement cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives within materials management.
- Analyze purchasing activities and generate reports to track performance and support decision-making.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of supply chain challenges, particularly related to material availability, inventory levels, and cost drivers.
- Partner with Engineering to support sourcing activities for new product development.
Qualifications and Skills
- 5+ years of experience leading sourcing and purchasing functions within a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and contract management skills, with the ability to influence and build effective partnerships.
- APICS (CPIM) and/or ISM (CPM) certification preferred, demonstrating commitment to professional development in supply chain practices.
- Experience with ERP systems, including a solid understanding of MRP process, data integrity, and system-driven planning logic.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Teams), including the ability to create, analyze, and communicate information using standard business applications.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, salaried exempt position, and the salary range is anticipated to be from $3,269.23 - $4,423.08 per bi-weekly payroll.
