Reliability Engineer Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a reliability engineer in Indiana?
Most reliability engineer roles in Indiana require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering. While no state-issued license is mandatory to hold the title, many senior or consulting positions prefer candidates who hold a Professional Engineer license administered through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. Earning a Certified Reliability Engineer credential from the American Society for Quality further strengthens your candidacy with Indiana's manufacturing and utility employers.
Which companies hire reliability engineers in Indiana?
Employers hiring reliability engineers in Indiana right now include Rolls-Royce, Eli Lilly, and GAF, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indiana's concentration of advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, and heavy industrial facilities means consistent openings across both large multinationals and regional plant operators.
Which Indiana cities have the most reliability engineer jobs?
The cities with the most reliability engineer openings in Indiana are Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Indiana. Indianapolis anchors the market through its mix of pharmaceutical facilities, defense contractors, and utility operators, while Fort Wayne and Evansville reflect strong demand from automotive suppliers and heavy manufacturers that have operated large production sites in those metros for decades.
Are there remote reliability engineer jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Reliability engineering is largely a hands-on, plant-floor discipline, and most Indiana employers require on-site presence to conduct equipment inspections, vibration analysis, and failure investigations. About 44% of reliability engineer openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. The portions most likely to allow remote work are data analysis, reporting, and reliability program development tasks rather than direct equipment monitoring.
How can I get hired as a reliability engineer in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a maintenance engineering or process engineering technician role at one of Indiana's large continuous-process manufacturers, where exposure to CMMS systems and equipment history builds the analytical foundation employers value. Cummins and Eli Lilly both run structured early-career rotational and co-op programs in Indiana that place new graduates in reliability-adjacent assignments. Pursuing a Reliability and Maintainability Engineer certification from the American Society for Quality while in an adjacent role signals commitment and accelerates the move into a dedicated reliability position.
