Research Associate Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a research associate in New York?
Most research associate roles in New York require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as biology, chemistry, public health, psychology, or a quantitative discipline. Clinical research associates working on FDA-regulated trials often pursue certification through the Society of Clinical Research Associates or the Association of Clinical Research Professionals, neither of which requires a New York state license but both of which are widely recognized by New York hospitals and contract research organizations. Candidates with graduate degrees move into senior roles faster at the city's large academic medical centers.
Which companies hire research associates in New York?
Employers hiring research associates in New York right now include Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital, University at Buffalo, and New York University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of academic medical centers, global pharmaceutical offices, and financial research firms makes it one of the few markets where research associate demand is strong in multiple industries simultaneously.
Which New York cities have the most research associate jobs?
New York, Buffalo, and Elmwood Ave have the most research associate openings in New York. New York City drives the majority of listings because of its concentration of hospitals, university research programs, and financial services firms, while Buffalo benefits from the University at Buffalo's health sciences programs and growing biotech presence, and Albany's volume reflects state government research agencies and health policy organizations headquartered there.
Are there remote research associate jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most science roles, because a meaningful share of research associate work in New York involves literature review, data analysis, regulatory writing, and project coordination rather than hands-on lab work. About 10% of research associate openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the analytical and administrative side of the field. Clinical and wet-lab positions remain largely on-site at hospitals and research facilities.
How can I get hired as a research associate in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for research coordinator or research assistant roles at New York City's large academic medical centers, which regularly post positions designed for new graduates. Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mount Sinai, and NYU Langone all run structured onboarding for early-career research staff. Completing a Clinical Research Coordinator certificate program, building familiarity with REDCap, and targeting roles explicitly labeled assistant or coordinator gives candidates without experience a concrete edge over applicants who apply cold to associate-level postings.
Where can I find and apply to research associate jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to research associate jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your background, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
