Sales Engineer Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales engineer in Wisconsin?
Most Wisconsin sales engineer positions require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. Wisconsin does not mandate a state-specific license for sales engineers, but candidates working with regulated systems such as boilers or pressure vessels may benefit from holding a relevant Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services credential. Employers typically prioritize candidates who combine a technical degree with demonstrated customer-facing or pre-sales experience.
How much do sales engineers make in Wisconsin?
Sales engineers in Wisconsin earn a median of about $117,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,240 for the lowest 10% to over $167,980 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales engineers in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin sales engineer roles are posted by BRUKER, Sandvik, and Fortinet and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Wisconsin's deep manufacturing and industrial automation base means many of these employers are looking for candidates with hands-on technical backgrounds in controls, fluid systems, or enterprise software.
Which Wisconsin cities have the most sales engineer jobs?
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Green Bay lead Wisconsin for sales engineer openings. Milwaukee drives the largest share of postings because of its dense concentration of industrial manufacturers, automation firms, and commercial building technology companies, while Madison's growing enterprise software sector and Green Bay's strong manufacturing and food processing industries generate consistent demand outside the largest metro.
Are there remote sales engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, though a meaningful share still require on-site client visits. About 64% of sales engineer openings tied to Wisconsin are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the pre-sales and solution-design work happens over video and shared platforms. Roles tied to physical equipment installation or plant-floor demonstrations tend to remain on-site or hybrid.
How can I get hired as a sales engineer in Wisconsin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a technical support, field service, or applications engineering role into pre-sales. Large Wisconsin manufacturers like Rockwell Automation and Johnson Controls run rotational programs and associate sales engineer tracks designed for recent engineering graduates. Completing a professional engineering internship at a Wisconsin industrial firm, earning a relevant product certification such as a controls vendor credential, and building a portfolio of technical problem-solving projects all strengthen a first application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to sales engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
You can find and apply to sales engineer jobs in Wisconsin on Migrate Mate, which lists current Wisconsin openings across industries and metro areas. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your technical background and territory preferences, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
