Sales Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales engineer in Texas?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or software engineering followed by a role in applications engineering, technical support, or field service at a Texas-based manufacturer or technology company. Texas does not require a state-issued license specifically for sales engineers, though roles in certain regulated sectors such as oil and gas instrumentation or fire protection systems may expect a Professional Engineer license or a Texas-specific product certification from the relevant vendor or industry body.
How much do sales engineers make in Texas?
Sales engineers in Texas earn a median of about $130,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,730 for the lowest 10% to over $201,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring sales engineers in Texas right now include Google, Apple, and Fortinet, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, semiconductor, and enterprise technology operations means hiring tends to be consistent throughout the year rather than seasonal.
Which Texas cities have the most sales engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most sales engineer openings in Texas. Houston's dominance reflects the energy, petrochemical, and industrial automation industries anchored there, while Dallas benefits from a dense cluster of enterprise software, telecommunications, and data center companies, and Austin's fast-growing tech sector drives demand for cloud, semiconductor, and SaaS sales engineers.
Are there remote sales engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, because a significant portion of the sales engineering workflow, including product demos, proposal development, and customer discovery calls, can be conducted remotely. About 30% of sales engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how the role has evolved since enterprise software and cloud solutions became the dominant categories. On-site presence is most commonly required during proof-of-concept phases or for roles tied to physical industrial equipment.
How can I get hired as a sales engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into sales engineering from a technical support, field applications, or inside sales role at an established Texas employer. Companies like Siemens, Emerson, and National Instruments have historically hired associate technical sales or applications engineer trainees out of Texas engineering programs, including those at UT Austin, Texas A&M, and Rice. Building a portfolio of product demos or proof-of-concept documentation and earning a vendor certification in a relevant platform, such as Salesforce, AWS, or a major industrial automation suite, meaningfully strengthens a candidate's profile for these openings.
Where can I find and apply to sales engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to sales engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
