Sales Engineering Manager Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales engineering manager in Montana?
Most sales engineering managers in Montana move into the role after several years as individual contributors in technical sales or pre-sales engineering. Montana does not require a state-issued license for sales engineering management, but employers consistently prefer candidates with an engineering or computer science degree. Building experience in industries central to Montana's economy, such as energy, agriculture technology, or industrial equipment, gives candidates a clear competitive edge when pursuing management roles with regional employers.
How much do sales engineering managers make in Montana?
Sales engineering managers in Montana earn a median of about $117,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,030 for the lowest 10% to over $205,760 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales engineering managers in Montana?
Employers hiring sales engineering managers in Montana right now include Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, CVS Health, and Providence, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's energy, technology services, and heavy equipment sectors produce the most consistent demand for this role across the state.
Which Montana cities have the most sales engineering manager jobs?
Montana, Yellowstone County, and Billings have the most sales engineering manager openings in Montana. Billings drives the largest share of postings as the state's commercial hub, anchored by energy companies and industrial distributors, while Missoula and Great Falls generate openings tied to regional technology services firms and utility infrastructure employers with significant operations in western and central Montana.
Are there remote sales engineering manager jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based roles, since sales engineering managers frequently need to support on-site client demonstrations and coach field teams in person. About 25% of sales engineering manager openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a market where flexibility exists mainly for the strategy and reporting side of the role rather than client-facing technical work.
How can I get hired as a sales engineering manager in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a sales engineer or pre-sales specialist role first, then building toward management. Montana employers in energy and industrial equipment, including utilities and equipment distributors headquartered in Billings and Great Falls, regularly hire associate sales engineers from mechanical or electrical engineering backgrounds. Lateral moves from field applications engineering or technical account management are common stepping stones. Earning a technical degree from Montana State University or the University of Montana and pairing it with CRM certification strengthens a candidate's profile for first-time management consideration.
Where can I find and apply to sales engineering manager jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to sales engineering manager jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find ones that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
