Service Advisor Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a service advisor in New York?
Most service advisor roles in New York require a high school diploma or associate degree, though many employers prefer candidates with automotive technology coursework from schools such as SUNY Alfred or Lincoln Tech's Long Island campus. New York does not require a state-issued license specific to service advisors, but employers consistently favor candidates who hold or are pursuing ASE Service Consultant certification, which demonstrates competency in customer service, estimating, and shop workflow management.
How much do service advisors make in New York?
Service advisors in New York earn a median of about $48,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,270 for the lowest 10% to over $76,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire service advisors in New York?
Employers hiring service advisors in New York right now include JPMorganChase, Bank of America, and Capgemini, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of franchise dealerships, fleet operators, and commercial truck service centers means openings appear regularly throughout the metro area and upstate regions alike.
Which New York cities have the most service advisor jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Atlanta account for the most service advisor openings in New York. The New York City metro drives volume through its massive concentration of luxury and import dealerships, while Long Island's suburban sprawl supports high-traffic franchise service centers, and Buffalo's commercial and fleet service sector generates consistent demand in western New York.
Are there remote service advisor jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Service advising is fundamentally a hands-on, customer-facing role tied to a physical service drive, which limits remote arrangements. About 19% of service advisor openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve phone-based or virtual service coordination roles rather than traditional dealership floor work.
How can I get hired as a service advisor in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a service porter, lot attendant, or parts counter role at a New York dealership, which places you inside the service department and makes internal advancement straightforward. Large dealer groups operating across the New York City metro and Long Island regularly promote from within for advisor trainee positions. Completing an automotive service technology program at a SUNY or BOCES campus and obtaining a student ASE certification gives a first-time candidate a concrete edge when applying.
Where can I find and apply to service advisor jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to service advisor jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the available roles, find ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
