Service Delivery Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a service delivery manager in Virginia?
Most service delivery managers in Virginia enter the field through IT operations, project coordination, or technical support roles before moving into management. Virginia's dominant federal contracting sector means employers heavily favor candidates who hold ITIL Foundation or higher certification alongside a bachelor's degree. Security clearance eligibility is a practical requirement at many Northern Virginia contractors. Candidates without direct management experience often move up from service desk lead, IT coordinator, or operations analyst positions.
How much do service delivery managers make in Virginia?
Service delivery managers in Virginia earn a median of about $201,490 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $133,320 for the lowest 10% to over $300,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire service delivery managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring service delivery managers in Virginia right now include Amazon, Zantech, and CyrusOne, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal IT contractors and managed service providers means demand is consistent year-round, particularly in the Northern Virginia technology corridor.
Which Virginia cities have the most service delivery manager jobs?
Ashburn, Herndon, and Roanoke have the most service delivery manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's density of federal agencies and defense contractors drives the largest share of demand, while Richmond attracts openings tied to financial services and state government IT, and Hampton Roads sees steady hiring from military-adjacent managed service providers.
Are there remote service delivery manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many comparable management roles, because service delivery managers in IT-heavy sectors can oversee teams and vendor relationships entirely through digital tools. About 43% of service delivery manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, though fully remote roles often still require periodic on-site presence in the Northern Virginia area. Strategic and planning-focused responsibilities tend to be the most remote-friendly portions of the role.
How can I get hired as a service delivery manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a service desk lead, IT coordinator, or operations analyst role at one of Virginia's large federal IT contractors, where internal promotion into delivery management is common. Firms like Leidos and Booz Allen Hamilton run associate and rotational programs in their Northern Virginia offices that develop junior candidates. Earning an ITIL Foundation certification before applying significantly strengthens a new candidate's profile and directly addresses the qualification most Virginia employers list first.
