Customer Program Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a customer program manager in Virginia?
Most customer program manager roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in business, information systems, or a related field, followed by experience in account coordination or project support. Virginia's large federal contracting sector means employers frequently prefer candidates who hold or can obtain a government security clearance. Earning a Project Management Professional certification strengthens applications considerably, and many employers in Northern Virginia specifically look for candidates familiar with federal acquisition and contract management processes.
Which companies hire customer program managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring customer program managers in Virginia right now include HII, Amazon, and Vectrona, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Virginia's dense concentration of defense contractors and federal IT firms means these roles often sit at the intersection of government client relations and program delivery.
Which Virginia cities have the most customer program manager jobs?
McLean, Ashburn, and Herndon have the most customer program manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia drives the bulk of demand given its role as the national hub for federal contracting and defense technology, while Richmond anchors commercial and state government accounts, and Hampton Roads supports a strong base of military and naval program work that requires dedicated customer-facing managers.
Are there remote customer program manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many fields. Customer program managers often work in client-facing, coordination-heavy roles that translate well to remote or hybrid arrangements. About 67% of customer program manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed client work has become. Program reporting, stakeholder communications, and account reviews are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a customer program manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a program coordinator, account associate, or project analyst within a Virginia-based federal contracting firm, then moving into a customer program manager role after building delivery experience. Large Virginia employers like Leidos and Booz Allen Hamilton run associate and rotational programs for early-career candidates. Lateral moves from customer success, contract administration, or business development roles are common. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential gives entry-level candidates a clear competitive edge with Virginia hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to customer program manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to customer program manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. The listings reflect roles in Northern Virginia, Richmond, Hampton Roads, and surrounding areas. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
