Strategy Director Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a strategy director job in San Diego?
Focus on San Diego's highest-demand sectors: defense and aerospace contractors in Kearny Mesa and Sorrento Valley, biotech and medtech firms clustered around Torrey Pines, and the growing fintech and digital media scene downtown. Candidates with experience bridging corporate strategy and technical product development have a clear edge locally. Familiarity with government contracting cycles or FDA-regulated commercialization strategies is a meaningful differentiator that pure commercial backgrounds rarely offer.
Which companies hire strategy directors in San Diego?
Employers hiring strategy directors in San Diego right now include Intuit, Travere Therapeutics, and Corpay, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Diego's hiring base skews toward large defense primes, publicly traded life sciences companies, and mid-size technology firms with national or federal clients.
Are there remote strategy director jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though strategy director roles tend to require regular executive collaboration, so fully remote positions are less common than hybrid arrangements. About 80% of strategy director openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with most offering two to three in-office days per week. Corporate and business development strategy functions skew most remote, while defense and government-adjacent roles typically require on-site presence.
How can I get a strategy director job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Diego is moving laterally from a senior analyst, business development manager, or product strategy role within the defense, life sciences, or tech sectors already active here. Large Sorrento Valley biotech firms and defense contractors regularly promote from within for strategy roles, and rotational leadership programs at regional health systems like Sharp HealthCare or Scripps Health can also open the door. A strong grasp of San Diego's dual economy, government contracts plus commercial biotech, signals local market fluency that generalist applicants lack.
Which industries hire the most strategy directors in San Diego?
San Diego strategy director roles concentrate in Medical Devices, Technology & Software, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Diego's identity as both a major military hub and a top-tier life sciences region creates sustained, parallel demand that insulates the local market from single-sector downturns.
