The role:
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Finance Business Partner to join our growing Strategic Finance team. Strategic Finance shapes SoFi's capital allocation strategy by assessing investment opportunities, framing key trade-offs, and prioritizing resources against the company's most important growth objectives. As a key business partner, you will provide financial leadership and strategic insights to two of SoFi's most critical and rapidly growing business lines: SoFi Checking & Savings and SoFi Credit Card. SoFi is an AI-forward organization, and you will be expected to responsibly use our suite of AI tools to build and enhance financial models, accelerate analysis, automate workflows, and improve decision-making.
What you'll do:
- Own the financial strategy, multi-year plan, annual operating plan, and rolling forecasts for SoFi's rapidly growing Checking & Savings and Credit Card businesses
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to Business Unit leaders, translating financial and operational data into insights and recommendations that shape growth strategy and business performance
- Build and analyze customer and product-level unit economics including LTV, CAC, payback periods, and risk-adjusted returns across cohorts, acquisition channels, products, and member segments
- Drive disciplined capital allocation through business cases, trade-off analyses, and post-investment performance measurement
- Partner with Product, Marketing, Risk, Operations, Treasury, Accounting, and Data teams to evaluate new products, pricing and rewards strategies, marketing programs, partnerships, and operating initiatives
- Lead scenario planning and sensitivity analyses to assess the impact of changes in interest rates, member behavior, credit performance, competitive dynamics, and other key business drivers
- Develop business cases for major initiatives and establish post-investment measurement processes to evaluate realized returns, surface learnings, and improve future capital-allocation decisions
- Synthesize complex analyses into clear, compelling recommendations and communicate business performance, risks, and opportunities to Executive Leadership
- Identify and scale high-impact AI use cases that expand Strategic Finance's capabilities, capacity, and analytical rigor
- Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team while fostering strong cross-functional collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and mentorship within and outside of Finance
What you'll need:
- 12+ years of experience in Strategic Finance, Corporate Finance, FP&A, investment banking, or a related field, ideally within fintech or consumer financial services
- Deep expertise in consumer financial-services economics, with a strong command of Credit Card unit economics and P&L dynamics
- Demonstrated expertise analyzing unit economics, including LTV/CAC, payback periods, and risk-adjusted returns, across cohorts, channels, products, and segments
- Expert financial modeling and scenario-analysis skills, including the ability to build driver-based models from scratch and analyze large data sets
- Fluency with AI tools and demonstrated ability to apply them to financial modeling, analysis, workflow automation, and decision support
- Ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations and influence senior decision-makers
- Creative and strategic problem-solving skills, with the ability to bring structure to ambiguous business questions
- Track record of building strong cross-functional relationships and driving decisions across Product, Marketing, Risk, Operations, and other functions
- Advanced spreadsheet and presentation skills; experience with Google Sheets and Slides is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Previous people management experience is a plus

Strategy Director Jobs in San Francisco: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a strategy director job in San Francisco?
The clearest path is targeting San Francisco's dominant sectors: enterprise technology companies in SoMa, financial services firms in the Financial District, and health-tech organizations in Mission Bay. Candidates who combine corporate strategy experience with fluency in data-driven decision-making stand out in this market. A demonstrated history of cross-functional influence and comfort presenting to executive leadership gives you a concrete edge with San Francisco employers.
Which companies hire strategy directors in San Francisco?
Companies currently hiring strategy directors in San Francisco include Visa, Airwallex, and DoorDash, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Francisco's employer mix skews heavily toward publicly traded technology companies, growth-stage startups backed by venture capital, and large financial institutions with West Coast headquarters.
Are there remote strategy director jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, though availability varies, since strategy directors often need to collaborate closely with executive teams and cross-functional partners, which limits fully remote arrangements at many San Francisco firms. About 57% of strategy director openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The portions of the role most amenable to remote work include competitive research, market analysis, and deck preparation.
How can I get a strategy director job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a senior strategy manager or senior analyst role inside a San Francisco technology or financial services company. Growth-stage startups in SoMa and Mission Bay often promote internally and hire associates with two to three years of management consulting or corporate development experience. Building relationships through San Francisco's dense alumni networks and strategy-focused professional communities accelerates that transition considerably.
Which industries hire the most strategy directors in San Francisco?
The sectors hiring the most strategy directors in San Francisco are Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Francisco's concentration of technology headquarters, venture-backed growth companies, and major financial institutions creates sustained demand for strategic leadership across all three sectors.
