Talent Acquisition Director Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a talent acquisition director in Virginia?
Virginia does not require a state-issued license to work as a talent acquisition director, so the path centers on education, experience, and professional credentials. Most hiring managers expect a bachelor's degree in human resources or business, several years of recruiting experience, and a proven record leading a team. Earning a SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification strengthens candidacy considerably with Virginia employers, particularly in the defense contracting and healthcare sectors that dominate the state's market.
How much do talent acquisition directors make in Virginia?
Talent acquisition directors in Virginia earn a median of about $165,980 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $105,130 for the lowest 10% to over $272,070 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire talent acquisition directors in Virginia?
Employers hiring talent acquisition directors in Virginia right now include Amazon, Virginia Tech, and Sentara, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's dense concentration of defense contractors, federal IT services firms, and major health systems means demand for talent acquisition leadership stays strong throughout the year.
Which Virginia cities have the most talent acquisition director jobs?
Richmond, Arlington, and Virginia Beach have the most talent acquisition director openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia leads because of its massive cluster of defense contractors and federal agencies, while Richmond draws demand from corporate headquarters and large health systems, and Hampton Roads generates openings tied to military installations and the contractors and healthcare networks that support them.
Are there remote talent acquisition director jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many leadership roles, because talent acquisition director work is largely strategic, systems-based, and communicative rather than tied to a physical site. About 64% of talent acquisition director openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting broad employer comfort with distributed HR leadership. The functions most likely to stay fully remote include employer branding, vendor management, and enterprise ATS administration.
How can I get hired as a talent acquisition director in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a senior recruiter or HR business partner role at a Virginia employer rather than applying for director positions directly. Large Virginia-based organizations such as Inova Health System, Leidos, and SAIC regularly hire recruiters at the coordinator and specialist level, offering internal mobility into leadership over time. Earning a SHRM-CP certification early, volunteering to lead a small recruiting team or project, and building experience with cleared-candidate pipelines all meaningfully accelerate the path to a director title in this market.
Where can I find and apply to talent acquisition director jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to talent acquisition director jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
