Role Overview
Even though the credit is 40 years old, one of the greatest misconceptions is who does and who does not qualify for the R&D Tax Credit. Credits are not limited to companies that solely provide product development — they are equally applicable to companies that develop new processes including improved efficiencies, as well as companies that invest in developing a new product or process for their customers. The R&D Practice conducts retroactive studies, current year engagements, and risk advisory services. Our Consultants combine an understanding of tax law with engineering disciplines to maximize companies’ research credits and reduce their overall tax burdens. McGuire Sponsel provides documentation to withstand the highest level of IRS and state tax authority scrutiny.

Tax Associate Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax associate in Indiana?
Most Indiana employers require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field as the baseline. Pursuing a CPA license through the Indiana Board of Accountancy significantly strengthens your candidacy, even if you are still completing the exam sections. Indiana follows the Uniform CPA Examination standard, and candidates typically begin the process while working in an entry-level tax role. Internship experience at a public accounting firm or corporate tax department is a common and practical first step.
How much do tax associates make in Indiana?
Tax associates in Indiana earn a median of about $45,710 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $27,190 for the lowest 10% to over $86,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax associates in Indiana?
Companies currently hiring tax associates in Indiana include H&R Block, DuCharme, McMillen & Associates, and McGuire Sponsel, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Indiana's concentration of regional public accounting firms, manufacturing headquarters, and healthcare systems creates consistent demand for tax associates across both corporate and client-service roles.
Which Indiana cities have the most tax associate jobs?
Indianapolis, Gary, and Paoli have the most tax associate openings in Indiana. Indianapolis dominates the market as the state capital and home to major corporate headquarters, large public accounting offices, and a growing financial services sector, while Fort Wayne and Carmel generate additional demand through regional firm offices and suburban corporate campuses anchored by employers like Parkview Health and Allied Solutions.
How can I get hired as a tax associate in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a paid internship or campus recruiting program at one of Indiana's regional public accounting firms, such as Katz Sapper & Miller or Blue & Co., both of which hire entry-level candidates directly from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business and Purdue University. Corporate tax departments at large Indiana manufacturers and healthcare systems also post staff tax associate roles that do not require prior experience if you hold a relevant degree. Completing at least one CPA exam section before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over the competition.
Where can I find and apply to tax associate jobs in Indiana?
