Tax Senior Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior in Louisiana?
Becoming a tax senior in Louisiana typically requires passing the CPA exam and obtaining licensure through the Louisiana State Board of Certified Public Accountants, which administers licensing and continuing education requirements for CPAs in the state. Most firms expect a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting along with several years of tax compliance or advisory experience gained at a public accounting firm or in a corporate tax department before promoting someone to the senior level.
How much do tax seniors make in Louisiana?
Tax seniors in Louisiana earn a median of about $73,810 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,950 for the lowest 10% to over $117,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax seniors in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring tax seniors in Louisiana include EY, EisnerAmper, and Hannis T. Bourgeois, LLP, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Louisiana's energy sector and the concentration of regional and national public accounting firms in New Orleans and Baton Rouge make it a particularly active market for experienced tax professionals.
Which Louisiana cities have the most tax senior jobs?
Bermuda, Shreveport, and Louisiana have the most tax senior openings in Louisiana. New Orleans drives much of the demand through its large public accounting offices and financial services firms, Baton Rouge adds volume through state government contractors and petrochemical companies headquartered along the industrial corridor, and Shreveport contributes openings tied to regional CPA practices and healthcare organizations serving northwest Louisiana.
Are there remote tax senior jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than most fields, since tax work is largely document-driven and can be completed independently of a physical office. About 40% of tax senior openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the broader shift in public accounting toward flexible arrangements. Federal and state corporate tax compliance, research, and review work are the functions most commonly offered on a fully remote or hybrid basis.
How can I get hired as a tax senior in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is joining a Louisiana regional or national firm as a tax associate or staff accountant, where you work directly under seniors and managers on compliance engagements. Firms such as Postlethwaite and Netterville and Bourgeois Bennett run structured new-graduate programs out of their Louisiana offices that build the compliance and review skills needed to advance. Sitting for the CPA exam early and gaining exposure to Louisiana-specific issues like franchise tax or severance tax on oil and gas production gives candidates a measurable edge when moving into senior-level roles.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior jobs in Louisiana?
