Job Description
Job Summary:
We're a fast-growing insurance brokerage that has scaled quickly through acquisition, bringing 200+ offices under one roof in just a few years. That kind of growth creates real tax complexity: multi-state exposure, partnership and flow-through structures, and a constant flow of new entities to integrate. We're hiring a Head of Tax to build and lead the function that keeps all of it running smoothly and positions us for what's next. This is a chance to own tax strategy end to end, shape how we scale, and be a trusted partner to finance and executive leadership as we keep growing.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Own the company's overall tax strategy and policy across federal, multi-state, and local jurisdictions, partnering with consolidated insurance agencies and corporate finance leadership to ensure tax positions align with business objectives and support ongoing growth.
- Direct the preparation, review, and filing of all tax returns, reconciliations, and projects related to tax and equity, including Schedule K-1 reporting and partnership/flow-through structures, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across a complex multi-entity organization.
- Lead the response to tax notices and audits, ensuring state tax methodologies are updated appropriately and communicated to external tax partners and internal finance leaders, including reassessing outstanding FIN 48 reserve positions and other uncertain tax positions.
- Provide tax leadership on mergers, acquisitions, and integrations, including due diligence, structuring, and post-close integration of acquired agencies into the consolidated tax framework.
- Oversee tax provision and reporting under ASC 740, partnering with accounting and external auditors to ensure accurate financial statement presentation and disclosure.
- Direct tax research across applicable regulations, tax codes, and case law to ensure compliance, while proactively identifying planning opportunities, credits, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors, consultants, and taxing authorities, controlling spend and holding partners accountable to quality and deadlines.
- Build, mentor, and lead the internal tax function, establishing scalable processes, controls, and technology to support a rapidly growing enterprise.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- College, university, or equivalent degree in accounting or a related field required; CPA, Chartered Accountant, or similar certification strongly preferred. Advanced degree (MST or MBA) is a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience, including a mix of public accounting and in-house/corporate tax leadership, with a track record of building or scaling a tax function.
- Deep expertise in partnership taxation and flow-through structures, including Schedule K-1 reporting, tax equity, and multi-tiered entity structures.
- Strong experience reviewing and improving estimated tax payment calculations and processes, and reviewing state and local income and agency franchise tax returns for domestic operations while leading assigned state and local audits.
- Demonstrated experience with ASC 740 tax provision, FIN 48, and financial statement reporting in a consolidated, multi-entity environment.
- Experience supporting M&A activity, including tax due diligence, structuring, and integration, ideally in a private equity backed or high-acquisition setting.
- Industry background in insurance, financial services, healthcare, or tech/SaaS; public tax experience required.
- Proven people leader with strong communication skills and the ability to partner with senior finance and executive stakeholders.

Tax Senior Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior manager in Utah?
The standard path runs through a CPA license issued by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam, completing a qualifying accounting degree, and satisfying Utah's work experience requirement under a licensed CPA. From there, candidates typically spend years in public accounting or a corporate tax department, progressing from staff to manager before reaching the senior manager level. A master's in taxation strengthens candidacy at the largest Utah firms.
How much do tax senior managers make in Utah?
Tax senior managers in Utah earn a median of about $79,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,770 for the lowest 10% to over $131,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax senior managers in Utah?
Employers hiring tax senior managers in Utah right now include HCVT, Tanner, and KPMG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's concentration of large public accounting offices and corporate headquarters in the Salt Lake City metro keeps hiring relatively consistent throughout the year.
Which Utah cities have the most tax senior manager jobs?
Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Ogden post the most tax senior manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City drives the bulk of demand as the state's primary hub for large public accounting offices, financial services firms, and corporate headquarters, while Provo benefits from a dense cluster of technology companies and regional business services firms, and Sandy draws roles from suburban corporate campuses and mid-market accounting practices.
Are there remote tax senior manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 63% of tax senior manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work, reviewing returns, advising on planning strategies, and managing client communications, can be done off-site. Roles at national public accounting firms with Utah offices tend to offer the most flexible arrangements, while in-house tax positions at Utah-based companies more often require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a tax senior manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic path for candidates with limited experience is entering through a staff or senior associate role at one of Utah's large public accounting offices, where firms like Deloitte and PwC run structured new-associate programs that build toward the manager track. Lateral moves from adjacent roles such as tax analyst, financial analyst, or audit associate are common entry points, particularly at corporate tax departments in Utah's technology and financial services sectors. Passing the CPA exam early and obtaining the Utah CPA license through the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing significantly improves candidacy before reaching senior manager consideration.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior manager jobs in Utah?
