Tax Services Manager Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax services manager in Maryland?
To reach a tax services manager role in Maryland, you first need a CPA license issued or recognized by the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam, meeting the education requirement of accounting coursework at the bachelor's level or higher, and completing supervised experience hours. Most managers come up through public accounting firms, spending several years in tax staff and senior roles before promotion. A master's in taxation strengthens candidacy at larger firms.
How much do tax services managers make in Maryland?
Tax services managers in Maryland earn a median of about $89,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,760 for the lowest 10% to over $156,660 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax services managers in Maryland?
Employers hiring tax services managers in Maryland right now include RSM, BDO, and CohnReznick, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Maryland's concentration of regional accounting firms, federal contractor headquarters, and financial services companies in the Baltimore-Bethesda corridor makes it one of the more active mid-Atlantic markets for this role.
Which Maryland cities have the most tax services manager jobs?
Baltimore, Columbia, and Owings Mills have the most tax services manager openings in Maryland. Baltimore anchors the market with its dense cluster of regional CPA firms, financial institutions, and large hospital systems with in-house tax departments, while Bethesda and Rockville draw significant demand from the government contractor and professional services firms that line the I-270 technology corridor.
Are there remote tax services manager jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than many management roles, since tax work is heavily documentation-based and most client deliverables travel electronically. About 100% of tax services manager openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the work. Federal and corporate compliance review, tax research, and return preparation are the functions most commonly performed remotely, while client onboarding and team supervision tend to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a tax services manager in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a regional Maryland firm's tax staff program and building toward management over several years. Firms like Aronson, CohnReznick, and SC&H Group hire new accounting graduates into structured associate programs in the Baltimore and Bethesda markets. A CPA license from the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy accelerates promotion significantly. Candidates moving from corporate accounting, internal audit, or revenue agent roles at the IRS or the Maryland Comptroller's Office also make the transition successfully.
