Accounting Manager Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting manager in Maryland?

Candidates typically hold a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and complete the required credit hours before sitting for the exam. Maryland employers in federal contracting and healthcare also value familiarity with cost accounting standards and grant compliance alongside the CPA credential.
Which companies hire accounting managers in Maryland?

Maryland's concentration of federal contractors, healthcare systems, and financial services firms means demand for accounting managers with government or regulated-industry experience tends to stay steady throughout the year.
Which Maryland cities have the most accounting manager jobs?
Baltimore, Bethesda, and Rockville have the most accounting manager openings in Maryland. Baltimore drives volume through its large hospital networks and financial institutions, while Bethesda and Rockville attract openings from the dense cluster of federal contractors and government agencies operating along the I-270 corridor in Montgomery County.
Are there remote accounting manager jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 63% of accounting manager openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves financial analysis, reporting, and system-based review rather than on-site operations. How can I get hired as a accounting manager in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an accounting manager role from a senior accountant or accounting supervisor position within a Maryland employer. Large federal contractors such as Leidos and Northrop Grumman, as well as the University of Maryland Medical System and state agencies, regularly hire staff accountants and senior accountants where strong performers advance into management.
