Accounting Manager Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting manager in Ohio?
Most accounting managers in Ohio hold a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and advance into the role after several years in staff or senior accountant positions. While a CPA license is not legally required to work as an accounting manager, the Accountancy Board of Ohio credentials CPAs in the state and holding that license meaningfully strengthens candidacy. Employers in manufacturing and financial services typically expect both the degree and supervisory experience before promoting into this role.
Which companies hire accounting managers in Ohio?
Employers hiring accounting managers in Ohio right now include Deloitte, Procter & Gamble, and American Electric Power, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's concentration of insurance carriers, large manufacturers, and regional healthcare systems means demand stays steady well beyond those names throughout the year.
Which Ohio cities have the most accounting manager jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland are the Ohio cities with the most accounting manager openings, reflecting where the state's largest corporate headquarters, regional financial centers, and major healthcare systems are based. Columbus draws heavily from insurance, tech-adjacent finance, and state government contractors, while Cleveland and Cincinnati benefit from longstanding manufacturing, banking, and consumer goods company presences that consistently maintain mid-to-senior accounting teams.
Are there remote accounting manager jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 47% of accounting manager openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that the role centers on reporting, analysis, and system work that translates well to distributed environments. Financial reporting, consolidation oversight, and management of remote staff accountants are the functions most commonly offered in flexible arrangements by Ohio employers.
How can I get hired as a accounting manager in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a senior accountant or financial analyst role at a mid-size Ohio manufacturer, regional bank, or healthcare system where internal promotions into accounting management are common. Earning a CPA through the Accountancy Board of Ohio signals readiness for supervisory responsibility even without a management title. Large Ohio employers in Columbus and Cincinnati regularly hire accounting team leads or assistant controllers as a first step toward a full manager role, and those positions are the practical on-ramp.
