Job Summary/Basic Function
TAs will be assigned to specific instructors in either a section of ENGL 1010 or 2010, or an introductory 2000-level course. TAs must attend each class for the section assigned and will learn pedagogical methods and strategies by observing the instructor, and assist in the classroom and beyond under the instructor’s supervision and mentorship. Assistance in the classroom may include taking attendance, distributing class materials, collecting class materials circulating amongst and answering questions from students, etc. Assistance beyond the classroom may include answering student emails, meeting with students, offering formative feedback on assignments, grading assignments under the supervision of the instructor, etc. TAs will prepare, deliver, and reflect upon 5 individual lessons during the course of the semester, again under the instructor’s supervision and mentorship.
Required Qualifications
Be a current student in the Master of Arts in English Program.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to students who are work-study eligible (must have FAFSA on file!). Preference will be given to students with higher availability, making it easier to connect them with mentor instructors and undergraduate course sections. Preference will be given to students who have not received a previous TAship or GIship. Beyond that, all matriculated students in the MA in English program are eligible, and we will strive to hire as many as we can within our budget. TAships will be capped at 2 total semesters (which need not be completed contiguously).

To apply, complete the online application. Complete FAFSA and upload current resume/CV plus a brief cover letter explaining your interest in teaching at the general education level, and how this position will help you pursue further teaching either during graduate school or beyond. Applications will be accepted twice per year, once in late-May/June for the following Fall semester, allowing all new admits to the program to apply, and once in November for the following Spring semester. GIs whose classes have low enrollment will be encouraged to apply during these periods so that we can better plan, but we will strive to offer any GI whose class is canceled a TAship.
If you are hired, please keep in mind that you will need to complete the appropriate Payroll and HR documents prior to beginning work.

Due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), individuals who have worked in a salaried capacity for Weber State University are ineligible to be hired as an hourly or adjunct employee at Weber State for six months.

Physical Requirements of this position
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to move objects, including the human body. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing only occasionally if ever. Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision.
Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
