Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Neuro unit requiring NIHSS certification and recent Epic experience.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg Neuro unit with 20 beds (14 floor)
• Patient population includes neurosciences, DBS, stroke, seizures, surgical/post-op spines, and other neurological disorders
• Floor patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Nursing aides available at 1:7-10 ratio, 3 per shift
• Charge nurse coverage 24/7
• Tele monitoring present on unit; RNs verify monitor tech strip readings in Epic rather than reading strips themselves
• RT available 24/7 for floor vents; RNs not required to have vent experience
• Titration performed per physician order, typically in step-down settings
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week guaranteed
• Weekend requirement varies by schedule, including every other weekend or 3 weekend shifts per schedule
• Floating required, with priority to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E before other hospital units
• 1 shift of unit-specific orientation provided

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certification required in hand at time of consideration
• ACLS certification preferred
• Strong overall neuro nursing experience required
• Proficiency and frequency with G-tubes required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required
• BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care to neuroscience patients including those with DBS, stroke, seizures, and post-op spine conditions
• Document verification of monitor tech strip readings in Epic
• Work alongside RT and physicians for floor vent management
• Holiday rotation coverage expected
• Scrub colors limited to any combination of white and royal blue
• Candidates must disclose any background check hits at time of consideration
• Radius rule of 100 miles for Princeton Community Hospital and 50 miles for all other WVU facilities; no local travelers accepted
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before reapplying
• Former perm staff at Princeton Community, Potomac Valley, and Garrett Regional are not eligible to return as travelers
• Travelers may not work within WVU for longer than a year cumulatively before requiring a 2-year break
