User Experience Design Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a user experience design in New York?
User experience design has no state-issued license in New York, so entry depends on a combination of education and portfolio. Most New York employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, or a closely related field, or a credible UX bootcamp certificate backed by a strong portfolio. Building case studies that show research through final design is the step that most consistently moves candidates into roles at New York firms.
How much do user experience designs make in New York?
User experience designs in New York earn a median of about $120,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,960 for the lowest 10% to over $204,510 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire user experience designs in New York?
Employers hiring user experience designs in New York right now include Amazon, Robinhood, and Collabera, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of finance, media, and tech headquarters means large in-house design teams are common, and demand tends to hold steady even when hiring slows elsewhere.
Which New York cities have the most user experience design jobs?
New York, New York City, and Brooklyn have the most user experience design openings in New York. Manhattan drives the bulk of demand through its concentration of tech companies, financial institutions, and media organizations, while Brooklyn has grown as a hub for startups and creative agencies that maintain dedicated product design teams.
Are there remote user experience design jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 39% of user experience design openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the core work of wireframing, prototyping, and research synthesis translates to distributed teams. Roles that involve frequent stakeholder workshops or in-person usability testing sessions are the most likely to require regular on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a user experience design in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate product designer role at a mid-size New York tech company or agency, where teams are small enough to mentor new designers. Large New York employers including IBM and major financial institutions run rotational or early-career design programs that accept candidates from bootcamps and new graduates. A portfolio with two or three well-documented case studies, even from coursework or volunteer projects, carries more weight than years of experience in early hiring conversations.
Where can I find and apply to user experience design jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to user experience design jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and interests, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
