Position Summary
Responsible for safely operating a bus to scheduled destinations while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including requirements established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). This role conducts vehicle inspections, maintains required records, and ensures the bus is clean, safe, and prepared for daily routes, community events, and other organizational activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:
- Safely operate a bus to scheduled destinations.
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is operating safely and report any maintenance issues.
- Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local traffic laws and transportation regulations, including requirements established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly bus environment.
- Assist passengers when boarding and exiting the bus, including individuals who may need additional support.
- Maintain accurate records including routes, mileage, fuel usage, and incident reports.
- Enforce safety procedures and maintain appropriate conduct while operating the bus.
- Report accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, or safety concerns promptly according to established procedures.
- Refuel the vehicle and ensure the bus is prepared for the next scheduled use.
- Support transportation needs for special trips, community events, and other organizational activities as assigned.
- Maintain compliance with all required safety, licensing, and training requirements.
- May be classified as essential, requiring prompt and effective action during critical situations to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
- Contribute to overall organizational success by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements
Job requirements include:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of experience operating a bus or commercial vehicle required.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
- Clean driving record in accordance with organizational and insurance requirements.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices and applicable transportation regulations.
- Ability to safely operate a large vehicle under varying traffic and weather conditions.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively with passengers, supervisors, and team members.
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain reliable attendance and adhere to established schedules.
- Bilingual is a plus.
