Which agriculture companies sponsor H-1B visas in Hawaii?
Established agribusiness operations and research institutions are the primary H-1B visa sponsors in Hawaii's agriculture sector. Dole Food Company, the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center, and the University of Hawaii system have documented LCA filing histories in agricultural and food science occupations. Smaller specialty crop farms occasionally sponsor H-1B workers for roles in plant pathology, crop science, or agricultural engineering when a qualifying degree is required.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most agriculture H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu on Oahu has the highest concentration of agriculture H-1B sponsorship activity, largely because corporate headquarters and university research programs are based there. The Maui and Hilo areas on Hawaii Island also produce sponsorship activity tied to diversified agriculture, coffee, macadamia nut production, and tropical fruit research. Kauai's agricultural operations are smaller but include specialty crop enterprises that occasionally sponsor qualified professionals.
How do I find agriculture H-1B sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate lets you filter directly for agriculture H-1B sponsorship jobs in Hawaii, showing employers with verified LCA filing histories in the state. This means you can focus on organizations that have already demonstrated a willingness to sponsor H-1B workers in agriculture-related roles, rather than applying broadly. You can narrow results by occupation type, helping you identify research, agronomy, food science, and agricultural management positions with active sponsorship records.
What types of agriculture roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Hawaii?
H-1B sponsorship in agriculture requires the role to meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field must normally be required. Roles that commonly qualify include agricultural scientists, plant pathologists, soil scientists, food technologists, agricultural engineers, and agronomy research managers. General farmworker, harvesting, or field labor positions do not qualify because they don't require a specialized degree, and employers typically use other visa categories for those roles.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in Hawaii agriculture?
Hawaii's agriculture sector is heavily oriented toward tropical specialty crops, diversified farming, and research into crops such as coffee, macadamia nuts, papaya, and taro, which creates demand for professionals with niche expertise. The state's geographic isolation means research and development roles are often prioritized for sponsorship over operational positions. Employers must still meet all federal H-1B requirements, including prevailing wage obligations verified through OFLC, regardless of Hawaii's higher cost of living relative to mainland states.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B agriculture jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
