Which energy companies in Hawaii sponsor H-1B visas?
Hawaiian Electric Industries and its subsidiaries are among the most active H-1B visa sponsors in Hawaii's energy sector. The Hawaii State Energy Office, independent power producers developing solar and wind projects, and contractors supporting the state's grid modernization programs have also filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications. Sponsorship activity tends to follow major infrastructure investments, so companies awarded utility contracts are worth researching through OFLC filings.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most energy H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu accounts for the largest share of energy H-1B positions in Hawaii, as it hosts corporate headquarters, state energy offices, and the island's most developed grid infrastructure. Kahului on Maui and Hilo on Hawaii Island see activity tied to renewable energy project development. Remote and offshore wind or solar sites may require travel across islands, but the sponsoring employer is almost always headquartered in Honolulu.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Hawaii?
Roles that typically qualify are those requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. In Hawaii's energy sector, that includes electrical engineers working on grid integration, renewable energy project engineers, power systems analysts, environmental compliance specialists, and energy policy analysts. USCIS evaluates each role as a specialty occupation, so the degree requirement must be specific to the position, not a general preference.
How do I find energy H-1B sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for energy roles with H-1B visa sponsorship in Hawaii, showing employers with verified LCA filing histories so you can focus on companies that have sponsored before. Given Hawaii's smaller job market compared to mainland states, setting up alerts and checking filings from utilities and renewable energy developers directly is especially valuable. Migrate Mate surfaces this employer-level sponsorship data alongside active job listings.
Are there state-specific factors that affect H-1B sponsorship for energy jobs in Hawaii?
Hawaii's mandate to reach 100% renewable electricity by 2045 under state law has driven sustained hiring in solar, wind, and battery storage, creating ongoing demand for specialized engineers and analysts. The island geography means project work is often site-specific, and employers must still meet all standard H-1B prevailing wage requirements determined through the OFLC Wage Search tool. The relatively small size of Hawaii's energy market means fewer total openings than mainland hubs, but competition among qualified candidates can also be lower.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B energy jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
