Which energy companies in Nevada sponsor H-1B visas?
NV Energy is the state's dominant utility and a recurring H-1B sponsor for electrical and systems engineers. Ormat Technologies, headquartered in Reno, sponsors H-1B workers for its geothermal operations. Larger construction and infrastructure firms supporting Nevada's solar and transmission projects, including national EPC contractors, also file H-1B petitions for specialized engineering and project management roles.
Which cities in Nevada have the most energy H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Las Vegas and its surrounding Clark County area concentrate the most energy H-1B roles, driven by NV Energy's operations and the region's large solar development pipeline. Reno is a strong second, anchored by Ormat Technologies' geothermal headquarters and a growing grid-tech presence tied to data center expansion. Carson City and Elko occasionally have openings tied to transmission and resource extraction projects.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Nevada?
Roles that require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules. In Nevada's energy sector, this commonly includes electrical engineers, power systems engineers, geothermal reservoir engineers, renewable energy project managers, grid integration analysts, and environmental compliance specialists. General labor, field technician, and equipment operator roles typically do not meet the specialty occupation standard.
How do I find energy H-1B sponsorship jobs in Nevada?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters energy jobs in Nevada by H-1B sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have filed petitions before rather than cold-applying to companies with no sponsorship track record. Search by state and industry on Migrate Mate to surface roles at utilities, renewable developers, and EPC firms actively hiring in Nevada.
Are there state-specific factors that affect H-1B sponsorship in Nevada's energy sector?
Nevada's aggressive renewable portfolio standard, which targets 50% clean energy by 2030, has expanded hiring in solar and geothermal, creating more H-1B demand in those sub-sectors than you'd find in states with slower clean energy mandates. Nevada has no state income tax, which affects compensation structuring but does not change federal H-1B prevailing wage requirements set by the Department of Labor.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B energy jobs in Nevada?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
