Which energy companies in Montana sponsor H-1B visas?
NorthWestern Energy, the state's dominant regulated utility, has filed H-1B visa Labor Condition Applications for engineering and grid operations roles. Oil and gas operators active in the Williston Basin extension into northeastern Montana, along with wind developers and transmission contractors, also appear in OFLC disclosure data. Filing history varies by year and role, so reviewing current LCA records gives the most accurate picture of active sponsors.
Which cities in Montana have the most energy H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Billings is Montana's energy employment hub, home to refinery operations, pipeline companies, and energy services firms. Helena hosts NorthWestern Energy's headquarters and associated grid management roles. Missoula and Great Falls support regional utility operations and renewable project management. Sidney and Williston-area employers in the Bakken-adjacent zone also generate H-1B filings tied to oil and gas extraction and reservoir engineering positions.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Montana?
Roles that consistently qualify are those requiring a specialized bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. In Montana's energy sector, these include petroleum engineers, electrical and power systems engineers, environmental engineers, geoscientists, and project managers with technical degrees. Wind energy development has also produced H-1B filings for civil and mechanical engineers supporting turbine installation and grid interconnection work across the state.
How do I find energy H-1B sponsorship jobs in Montana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type and industry, making it straightforward to search for energy H-1B sponsorship positions in Montana without sorting through roles that don't sponsor. Because Migrate Mate surfaces employer LCA filing history, you can see which Montana energy companies have actively certified H-1B positions and target your applications toward employers with a documented sponsorship record in the sector.
Are there state-specific considerations for H-1B workers in Montana's energy industry?
Montana's energy projects often involve remote or seasonal work sites in the Williston Basin or along wind corridors, which can affect worksite location requirements on the Labor Condition Application. H-1B workers assigned to multiple sites or transferred between locations may trigger amended LCA filings. Employers in regulated utility roles must also ensure prevailing wage compliance using the OFLC Wage Search tool, as Montana's wage determinations reflect regional rather than national labor market data.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B energy jobs in Montana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
