Which energy companies in Oregon sponsor H-1B visas?
Portland General Electric and PacifiCorp (Pacific Power) are among the established Oregon utilities with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories. Renewable energy developers operating in the Columbia River Gorge wind corridor and solar project developers active in the Willamette Valley have also filed H-1B petitions. Smaller clean energy startups and grid technology firms in Portland have sponsored H-1B workers in engineering and data roles as well.
Which cities in Oregon have the most energy H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Portland concentrates the largest share of energy H-1B roles, housing utility headquarters, clean energy startups, and grid technology companies. The Hood River and The Dalles area in the Columbia River Gorge sees activity tied to wind energy development and operations. Bend and Corvallis have smaller but growing clean energy employer presences, particularly in solar and energy efficiency-focused firms.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Oregon?
Roles that consistently qualify are those requiring a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant technical field. In Oregon's energy sector, this includes power systems engineers, electrical engineers, grid reliability analysts, renewable energy project engineers, environmental engineers, and energy data scientists. Positions requiring expertise in wind or solar resource assessment and transmission planning also commonly meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard.
How do I find energy H-1B sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters energy jobs in Oregon by H-1B sponsorship, saving you from manually researching each employer's visa policies. You can browse roles across utilities, renewables developers, and clean energy firms active in the state. Because Migrate Mate focuses on verified sponsoring employers, it narrows the search to companies that have a documented history of filing H-1B petitions in the energy sector.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in the energy industry?
Oregon's accelerating clean energy transition, driven by state renewable portfolio standards targeting 100% clean electricity by 2040, is expanding technical hiring at utilities and project developers. This creates more specialty occupation roles that can support H-1B petitions. However, project-based work common in construction-phase energy roles can complicate sponsorship if the position lacks the permanency and degree-specific requirements USCIS expects for H-1B qualification.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B energy jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
