Search Education Jobs in HawaiiEducation H-1B Sponsorship Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
Which education employers in Hawaii most commonly sponsor H-1B visas?
The University of Hawaii System, including its flagship Manoa campus and community college branches, is the most active H-1B visa sponsor in Hawaii's education sector. The Hawaii Department of Education also files H-1B petitions for qualified teachers in hard-to-fill subject areas. Smaller private institutions and language schools occasionally sponsor, though volume is limited compared to the state university system.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most education H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu accounts for the largest share of education H-1B roles in Hawaii, driven by the University of Hawaii at Manoa and several private colleges concentrated on Oahu. Hilo is a secondary hub due to the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Positions on Maui and Kauai exist but are far less frequent, typically tied to community college campuses or public school district openings.
What types of education roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Hawaii?
Roles that qualify require a specialty occupation, meaning the position normally demands at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the job duties. In education, this typically includes university faculty, research scientists, curriculum specialists, educational technologists, and certain licensed K-12 teachers in shortage subjects such as special education, STEM, and English language learning. General teaching aide or paraprofessional positions usually do not qualify.
How do I find education H-1B sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you filter for education roles with verified H-1B sponsorship history in Hawaii. Because Hawaii's education H-1B market is concentrated among a small number of institutional employers, filtering by employer filing history is more efficient than broad job searches. Migrate Mate surfaces which employers have actively filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications for education roles, saving you significant research time.
Are there any Hawaii-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in education?
Hawaii's geographic isolation means most education H-1B roles are tied to a relatively small number of large institutions, so the sponsoring employer pool is narrower than in mainland states. Positions at the University of Hawaii System are cap-exempt, meaning petitions are not subject to the annual H-1B lottery, which is a significant practical advantage. Public school district roles are generally cap-subject and must go through the standard USCIS process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B education jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
