Summary of the position:
Create technical assemblies, models, and drawings for the design of Air Compressors. Work closely with other designers, engineers, and staff engineers to complete this work. Preform simple calculations such as Weight and Center of Gravity. Release new and revise existing files into PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system. Most the Engineer, Staff Engineer, and Design Engineering Supervisor will review work.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Create 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) models of complex compressor sub-systems.
- Model new vendor parts, as necessary.
- Support multiple engineers and numerous projects at any given time.
- Design air compressor components and test equipment with maintenance, safety, and robustness in mind.
- Design assemblies in context of the top-level assembly using assembly constraints and arrangements.
- Prepare Engineering Requests (ER’s) to document and release new parts, assemblies, BOM’s and drawing changes.
- Provide management with appropriate, timely, and accurate status updates.
- Develop and revise engineering drawings, BOM’s and specifications.
- Support the development of standard processes, procedures, and designs as it pertains to mechanical systems.
- Create Bill of Material using SAP Engineering Control Center (PLM) software.
- Assist in training and mentoring of less experienced team members.
- Participate in departmental and cross-functional teams to achieve corporate strategic goals.
- Perform other design related duties as assigned.
- Apply sound design practices to both CFD and FEA model setups.
- Provide technical support to teammates in sales, warranty, and customer service roles.
- Preform engineering analysis on components and sub-systems.
Qualifications:
Education:
- AS Degree minimum
Professional experience:
- Strong 3D parametric modeling skills (mechanical design, mechanical routing, castings, and machining).
- Experience using ECTR, or other PLM Software.
- Ability to create complex assemblies using constraints.
- Ability to understand and create P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
- Proficient in Unigraphics NX 12, other design packages considered with appropriate experience.
- Self-directed work team environment requires individual to be a team player and self-starter.
- Require work to be completed with current work tools but have a desire to improve our processes through continuous improvement.
- Understand attribute driven models in NX and PLM.
- Understand Drafting standards.
- Experience with GD&T preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Understand how ERP systems work (JD Edwards or SAP).
- 1-4 years’ experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment.
