Which automotive companies in Iowa sponsor work visas?
John Deere leads visa sponsorship in Iowa, particularly for mechanical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing engineers at their Waterloo and Ankeny facilities. Caterpillar sponsors roles in Burlington, while smaller manufacturers like Kinze Manufacturing and Vermeer Corporation also sponsor technical positions. Most sponsorship focuses on agricultural equipment and heavy machinery expertise.
How to find automotive visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Use Migrate Mate to search specifically for automotive visa sponsorship opportunities in Iowa, filtering by visa type and location. Focus your search on Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Waterloo where most automotive employers are located. Many positions require experience with agricultural equipment, diesel engines, or precision farming technology specific to Iowa's agricultural equipment sector.
What visa types do automotive companies in Iowa typically sponsor?
H-1B visas are most common for engineering roles at John Deere and other agricultural equipment manufacturers. TN visas work well for Canadian and Mexican engineers, while L-1 visas support international transfers to Iowa facilities. Some companies sponsor EB-2 and EB-3 green cards for long-term technical positions in manufacturing and product development.
Which Iowa cities have the most automotive visa sponsorship opportunities?
Waterloo leads with John Deere's major manufacturing complex, followed by Des Moines and Ankeny where corporate headquarters and engineering centers are located. Cedar Rapids and Dubuque offer additional opportunities through smaller manufacturers. Burlington hosts Caterpillar operations, while rural areas have specialized agricultural equipment companies that occasionally sponsor technical roles.
What are the prevailing wage considerations for automotive roles in Iowa?
Iowa's prevailing wages for automotive engineers and technicians are generally lower than coastal markets but competitive within the Midwest. Agricultural equipment expertise commands premium wages due to specialized knowledge requirements. Companies like John Deere often meet Level 2 or Level 3 prevailing wages for experienced engineers, making visa sponsorship financially viable.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored automotive jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
