Which accounting companies sponsor visas in Iowa?
Principal Financial Group in Des Moines is Iowa's largest visa sponsor for accounting roles, particularly for financial reporting and tax positions. Workiva in Ames sponsors international talent for their cloud-based reporting platform. Regional firms like BerganKDV and smaller CPA practices occasionally sponsor experienced professionals, especially during busy season or for specialized tax expertise.
Which visa types are most common for accounting roles in Iowa?
H-1B visas dominate accounting sponsorship in Iowa, particularly for roles requiring specialized knowledge in financial reporting, tax compliance, or systems implementation. F-1 OPT extensions are common for recent graduates from Iowa's accounting programs. L-1 transfers occur when multinationals relocate experienced accountants to their Iowa operations, though this is less frequent than H-1B sponsorship.
How to find accounting visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international candidates with Iowa employers who sponsor accounting visas. Focus on Des Moines for financial services roles and Cedar Rapids for corporate accounting positions. Many Iowa employers value candidates with experience in agricultural accounting or insurance, reflecting the state's key industries that drive much of the sponsorship demand.
Which cities in Iowa have the most accounting sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines leads with over 60% of Iowa's accounting visa sponsorship opportunities, driven by insurance companies and financial services firms. Ames offers tech-focused accounting roles, while Cedar Rapids provides manufacturing and healthcare accounting positions. Smaller cities like Dubuque and Iowa City have limited but consistent sponsorship through regional employers and university-affiliated organizations.
What should I know about accounting prevailing wages in Iowa?
Iowa's prevailing wages for sponsored accounting positions typically run 15-25% below coastal markets but offer significantly lower living costs. The Department of Labor requires employers to meet specific wage thresholds that vary by experience level and location within Iowa. Des Moines commands the highest prevailing wages, while smaller metropolitan areas have correspondingly lower requirements that still provide comfortable living standards.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored accounting jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
