Which food and beverage companies sponsor H-2B visas in Iowa?
Iowa's largest H-2B visa sponsors in food and beverage are concentrated in meat processing, with facilities operated by Tyson Foods, Iowa Premium Beef, and National Beef among those with documented sponsorship histories. Grain-based food manufacturers and beverage bottlers also file H-2B petitions seasonally. Sponsorship activity is heaviest among larger processors in eastern and western Iowa who face recurring labor shortages in production and processing roles.
Which cities in Iowa have the most food and beverage H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Waterloo and the Cedar Falls corridor anchor much of Iowa's food and beverage H-2B hiring due to its dense concentration of protein processing plants. Des Moines draws sponsored workers for food manufacturing and distribution operations. Sioux City, bordering Nebraska and South Dakota, hosts several large processing facilities that file H-2B petitions. Smaller communities like Tama, Columbus Junction, and Ottumwa also see seasonal H-2B activity tied to specific plant operations.
What types of food and beverage roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
Positions that typically qualify include production line workers, meat processors, food packagers, quality control technicians, and equipment sanitation staff. Roles must be temporary or seasonal by nature, with the employer demonstrating insufficient U.S. workers available. Skilled positions such as food safety inspectors and certain maintenance technicians in food plants may also appear, provided the employer documents the temporary need and meets DOL prevailing-wage requirements verified through the OFLC Wage Search.
How do I find food and beverage H-2B sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate lists verified H-2B sponsorship opportunities in Iowa's food and beverage sector, letting you filter by role type, location, and visa category so you can focus on positions where sponsorship is confirmed. Because H-2B petitions are employer-driven and tied to specific seasonal windows, searching a platform like Migrate Mate that surfaces active sponsoring employers in Iowa food and beverage saves significant time compared to general job searches.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for H-2B food and beverage sponsorship?
Iowa's food and beverage H-2B activity is closely tied to agricultural cycles, meaning petition filings often align with harvest-season processing surges in the fall and early winter. Iowa employers must comply with state occupational safety regulations alongside federal H-2B requirements, which can affect onboarding timelines. Workers placed through H-2B in food processing should also be aware that Iowa's food plant environments carry specific safety training obligations that are part of the employment terms.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B food & beverage jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
