Which construction companies sponsor H-2B visas in Iowa?
Regional contractors and national construction firms with Iowa operations have filed H-2B petitions for temporary workers in roofing, masonry, concrete work, and general site labor. Employers range from mid-size residential builders to commercial contractors managing large infrastructure projects. DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data lists certified H-2B employers by state, so you can search Iowa-specific filings to identify companies with active sponsorship history.
Which cities in Iowa have the most construction H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines sees the highest concentration of construction H-2B filings, driven by its ongoing commercial development and infrastructure expansion. Cedar Rapids and Davenport also generate consistent activity, particularly for residential construction and industrial facility work. Sioux City, Iowa City, and Waterloo have smaller but recurring H-2B construction demand tied to regional building projects and seasonal labor shortages in those markets.
How do I find construction H-2B sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate lists construction jobs with verified H-2B sponsorship history in Iowa, letting you filter by role type and location. Because H-2B positions are tied to a specific employer's temporary need certification, searching a platform that tracks DOL filing history gives you a more reliable starting point than a general job board. Check listings regularly, as H-2B construction roles in Iowa are posted seasonally ahead of project start dates.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
H-2B construction roles are generally temporary, non-agricultural positions with a defined end date or seasonal pattern. Common qualifying roles include roofing laborers, concrete finishers, framers, drywall installers, masonry workers, and general construction helpers. The employer must demonstrate a temporary need and show that qualified U.S. workers are unavailable for those positions. Roles requiring advanced licensure or supervisory authority are less commonly filed under H-2B.
Are there Iowa-specific considerations for H-2B construction sponsorship?
Iowa's construction season peaks in spring through fall, which aligns with the H-2B temporary need requirement. Employers must obtain a prevailing wage determination through OFLC Wage Search before filing, and Iowa-specific wage levels apply. Iowa does not operate a state-level work authorization program separate from federal H-2B rules, so all sponsorship flows through USCIS and DOL. Workers in Iowa construction may also encounter E-Verify requirements depending on the employer and project type.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B construction jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
