Which electronics companies in Kansas sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Garmin's Olathe headquarters is one of the most active electronics employers in Kansas with documented STEM OPT hiring, particularly for hardware engineering and embedded systems roles. Wichita-based aerospace manufacturers including Textron Aviation and Spirit AeroSystems regularly hire electronics engineers and have STEM OPT sponsorship history. Defense contractors and industrial electronics firms operating in the Kansas City metro also appear in OFLC disclosure data for STEM OPT positions.
Which cities in Kansas have the most electronics F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Wichita concentrates the largest share of electronics sponsorship activity in Kansas, driven by its aerospace and defense manufacturing base. Olathe and Overland Park, in the Kansas City metro area, host technology and consumer electronics employers including Garmin's primary campus. Lawrence and Manhattan see smaller volumes, typically tied to university-affiliated research and component manufacturing. Wichita and the Johnson County corridor together account for the majority of OFLC-documented STEM OPT electronics filings in the state.
How do I find electronics F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type, including F-1 STEM OPT, and by industry, so you can search electronics roles in Kansas without manually screening every posting. Because Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified OFLC filing history, you can identify which Kansas electronics companies have actually sponsored STEM OPT candidates rather than relying on employer self-reporting. Focus searches on Wichita and the Johnson County metro for the highest concentration of relevant openings.
What types of electronics roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Kansas?
Roles that qualify must carry a STEM-designated CIP code tied to your degree. In Kansas electronics, qualifying positions commonly include electrical engineer, embedded systems engineer, hardware design engineer, RF engineer, avionics engineer, and PCB layout engineer. Quality and test engineering roles tied to electronics manufacturing also frequently qualify. O*NET occupation codes for these titles confirm STEM classification. Roles classified as general program management or sales engineering without a technical degree requirement typically do not qualify.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT in Kansas electronics?
Kansas electronics hiring is heavily influenced by aerospace and defense sector cycles, which can affect sponsorship volume in Wichita more than national electronics trends. Defense contractors working on classified programs may have clearance requirements that complicate STEM OPT participation, since security clearances are generally unavailable to non-U.S. persons. Kansas does not impose state-level visa sponsorship requirements beyond federal USCIS and DOL obligations. Confirming that a role's SOC code aligns with your degree's STEM CIP code remains the most important eligibility check regardless of employer size.
