This is a field-based technical position responsible for observing, documenting, and reporting on construction activities for City-managed projects.
This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. This is an essential position and is required to work recall hours and during inclement weather. This may include after hours, weekends, and holidays.
What you’ll do:
- Conduct routine field observations of new construction, renovation and repair work for quality, materials and workmanship to ensure compliance.
- Prepare and maintain construction progress reports and material testing documentation.
- Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, maps, legal descriptions and exhibits.
- Review project plans and specifications for field familiarity and communicate observed field conditions.
The ideal candidate:
- Is relationship-driven, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Has knowledge of the construction industry, to include construction standards, related ordinances, and common materials and tools.
- Is skilled in reading and interpreting architectural and mechanical plans.
- Has an aptitude for technology.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- One year of experience in the construction field or engineering field OR one year of high school level or above training in the construction or engineering field is required.
- One or more years of experience in construction inspection or project management is highly preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license and meet the City’s insurability requirements.
Entry Rate of Pay: $19.89 - $20.82 per hour, depending on qualifications
