Which science and research companies sponsor Green Card visas in Maine?
Notable sponsors in Maine include Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay, Maine Medical Center Research Institute in Portland, The Jackson Laboratory's Maine partnerships, and university-affiliated research centers at the University of Maine and University of New England. Federal research facilities and environmental science contractors also have established Green Card sponsorship histories for research scientists and senior laboratory staff.
Which cities in Maine have the most science and research Green Card sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Maine's primary hub, concentrating biomedical research, environmental science, and clinical research roles tied to its hospital systems and growing life sciences sector. Orono anchors university-driven research sponsorship through the University of Maine. East Boothbay and the mid-coast region host marine and ocean science positions. Bangor supports biomedical and clinical research roles connected to Northern Light Health facilities.
What types of science and research roles typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship in Maine?
Roles that commonly qualify include research scientists, postdoctoral researchers, marine biologists, biomedical scientists, environmental scientists, laboratory directors, and data scientists in research settings. These positions typically require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related scientific field, though most sponsored roles at Maine research institutions require a master's degree or doctorate. Principal investigator and senior scientist positions are the most frequently sponsored categories.
How do I find science and research Green Card sponsorship jobs in Maine?
Migrate Mate filters science and research jobs by Green Card sponsorship history, so you can see which Maine employers have actively filed Labor Condition Applications and PERM applications for research roles. Rather than sorting through positions that may not offer sponsorship, Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsoring employers in Maine's science and research sector, saving you time and focusing your applications on realistic opportunities.
Are there state-specific considerations for Green Card sponsorship in Maine's science and research sector?
Maine's research community is smaller and more institution-driven than major coastal science hubs, meaning most Green Card sponsorship flows through universities, hospital-affiliated research institutes, and federal grant recipients rather than large private biotech firms. Employers sponsoring through the EB-2 or EB-3 categories must complete PERM labor certification through DOL, confirming no qualified U.S. workers were available. Researchers with exceptional credentials may qualify for the EB-1A or EB-2 National Interest Waiver, which bypasses the PERM requirement entirely.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card science & research jobs in Maine?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
