Which aerospace & defense companies in Maryland sponsor H-1B and other work visas?
Major sponsors include Lockheed Martin (Bethesda headquarters), Northrop Grumman, Raytheon Technologies, Boeing Defense, and SAIC. Government contractors like Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics, and CACI also frequently sponsor visas. NASA Goddard Space Flight Center partners with contractors requiring specialized talent. These companies consistently appear in Department of Labor disclosure data for Maryland-based positions.
What visa types are most common for aerospace & defense jobs in Maryland?
H-1B dominates for engineers, software developers, and systems analysts. L-1 visas are common for international defense contractors transferring employees to Maryland operations. EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship occurs frequently due to security clearance requirements favoring permanent residents. O-1 visas apply to specialized researchers working with NASA Goddard or advanced defense projects.
How to find aerospace & defense visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international candidates with Maryland aerospace & defense employers offering visa sponsorship. The platform filters positions by sponsorship type and security clearance eligibility. Focus on the Baltimore-Washington metro area where most major contractors maintain operations. Many roles require U.S. person status eventually, making green card sponsorship particularly valuable in this sector.
Which Maryland cities have the most aerospace & defense visa sponsorship opportunities?
Bethesda leads with Lockheed Martin headquarters and numerous defense contractors. Columbia and Laurel host significant operations near NSA and Fort Meade. Greenbelt centers around NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Baltimore offers naval and maritime defense positions. Annapolis provides opportunities with defense contractors supporting Naval Academy research. The entire I-95 corridor from Baltimore to DC concentrates most opportunities.
Do Maryland aerospace & defense jobs have specific visa sponsorship requirements?
Security clearance eligibility significantly impacts sponsorship decisions. Many positions require U.S. citizenship for Secret or Top Secret clearances, limiting options to green card pathways. ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance affects hiring foreign nationals. However, unclassified research positions at NASA Goddard and commercial aerospace roles often sponsor H-1B visas without clearance requirements.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored aerospace & defense jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
