ROLE SUMMARY
This Lead Software Engineer will focus on a key growth initiative enhancing our Individual Investors (II) Advisory services. The primary focus will be the development of modern, scalable solutions and is foundational for advancing T. Rowe Price’s retail advice offerings.
We will expect you to be agile / to lead / to think outside the box. You’ll be hands-on coding through the entire development lifecycle as well as leading an Agile team of Software Engineers. In this role, you will foster innovation as you build applications to provide business value solutions for our clients. You will be part of a collaborative team of curious and enthusiastic engineers who bring different perspectives to our projects working with AWS, Java, and Microservice technology.
Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer with 8+ years of Java and AWS experience including microservice development and familiarity working with cloud-based applications. You will also:
- Mentor and lead other developers enabling them to work independently
- Lead development efforts, provide input into architectural and design decisions, provide realistic estimates
- Design and develop solutions working with other internal groups such as architecture, devops and enterprise security to ensure alignment with enterprise technology direction and standards
- Contribute to code reviews and provide feedback
- Lead discussions to drive tactical vs. strategic decisions, outlining trade-offs
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND 8+ years of total relevant work experience
- 8+ years of progressive Java development expertise including microservice development
- Significant expertise designing, developing, deploying, and supporting Java backend solutions
- Significant experience in AWS cloud technologies including databases, caching, and messaging
- Significant experience using Spring Boot
- Able to work with existing data models and schemas and suggest changes and improvements
- Experience using UNIX, scripting, and GitLab
- Have written Unit tests and has familiarity with a variety of testing frameworks
- Provides a clear and concise explanation of business strategy, technical concepts, designs or implementation to a non-technical audience
- Able to quickly learn new technologies and stay abreast of industry trends
- Able to support deployments and occasional support activities outside normal business hours as needed
Preferred:
- Previous experience in the asset management industry
- Prior hands-on UI development expertise with React, Angular, Vue, etc

WORK FLEXIBILITY
This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to three days per week from home.

$145,000.00 - $247,000.00 for the location of: Maryland, Colorado, Washington and remote workers
$159,000.00 - $272,000.00 for the location of: Washington, D.C.
$181,000.00 - $309,000.00 for the location of: New York, California
Placement within the range provided above is based on the individual’s relevant experience and skills for the role. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance.
