Which accounting companies sponsor H-1B visas in Maryland?
National public accounting firms with Maryland offices, including Deloitte, KPMG, EY, and Grant Thornton, have historically filed H-1B visa petitions for accounting roles. Regional firms such as CohnReznick and Watkins Meegan, as well as large federal contractors headquartered in the D.C. suburbs, also appear in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data for Maryland-based accounting positions. Sponsorship availability varies by hiring cycle and role.
Which cities in Maryland have the most accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Bethesda, Rockville, and Silver Spring in Montgomery County concentrate the highest volume of accounting H-1B positions, driven by proximity to federal agencies and large contractors. Baltimore city is the second major hub, with significant activity from financial services firms, hospital systems such as Johns Hopkins Health System, and regional public accounting offices. Annapolis and Greenbelt also see activity tied to government-adjacent finance roles.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that require a U.S. bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a closely related field generally qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules. Positions commonly sponsored include staff and senior accountants, auditors, tax associates, forensic accountants, and financial reporting analysts. General bookkeeping or clerking roles, where no specific degree field is required, are less likely to meet the specialty occupation standard.
How do I find accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking H-1B sponsorship and lets you filter by state, visa type, and industry to surface verified accounting roles in Maryland. Because many employers do not advertise sponsorship availability upfront, using a platform focused on sponsorship-confirmed listings saves significant time. Migrate Mate's accounting category covers roles from Big Four firms to regional Maryland employers actively hiring international candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for H-1B accounting jobs in Maryland?
Maryland's concentration of federal government contractors creates a distinctive hiring pattern: many accounting roles involve security clearance eligibility requirements, which can complicate sponsorship because clearance processing for non-citizens is often restricted or lengthy. Candidates targeting federal contractor accounting positions in Montgomery or Prince George's County should verify clearance expectations early. Maryland CPA licensure requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting experience requirements regardless of visa status.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B accounting jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
