Which hospitality companies sponsor H-1B visas in Maryland?
Large hotel management groups and food service contractors with Maryland operations are among the most consistent H-1B sponsors in the state's hospitality sector. Marriott International, headquartered nearby in Bethesda, has a significant H-1B filing history. Sodexo, with major operations in the greater D.C.-Maryland area, also regularly files for hospitality and food service management roles. Smaller boutique hotels and regional resort operators sponsor far less frequently.
Which cities in Maryland have the most hospitality H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Baltimore is the primary hub, driven by its convention center, Inner Harbor hotels, and a strong food and beverage management sector. The D.C. suburbs, including Bethesda and Rockville in Montgomery County, generate significant activity given the concentration of corporate hospitality employers headquartered or regionally based there. Ocean City sees seasonal hospitality demand but rarely produces H-1B sponsorship, which requires full-time, permanent employment.
What types of hospitality roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in hospitality is generally limited to specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Roles that tend to qualify include hotel general managers with hospitality management degrees, revenue managers, food and beverage directors, event operations managers, and corporate culinary or menu development positions tied to specific technical expertise. Front-line roles like servers, housekeeping, and front desk staff do not meet the specialty occupation standard.
How do I find hospitality H-1B sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters listings by visa sponsorship type, making it straightforward to search for H-1B hospitality roles in Maryland without manually screening hundreds of postings. You can filter by industry and state to surface employers actively willing to sponsor. Beyond the job board, reviewing DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data can help you identify which Maryland hospitality employers have filed H-1B petitions in recent years.
Are there any Maryland-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in hospitality?
Maryland's proximity to Washington, D.C. means some of the largest potential sponsors, including Marriott International and several major food service contractors, operate regionally across both jurisdictions. This can work in your favor since a company headquartered in Maryland may have broader H-1B sponsorship infrastructure than a standalone hotel. Maryland has no state-level visa or work authorization program, so the federal H-1B process applies uniformly regardless of county or city.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B hospitality jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
