Which accounting companies sponsor H-1B visas in California?
The Big Four firms, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and Ernst & Young, are among the most consistent H-1B visa sponsors for accounting roles in California. Regional public accounting firms such as Moss Adams and BDO USA also file sponsorship petitions. California's technology sector adds another layer, with companies like Apple, Google, and Meta sponsoring in-house accounting and financial reporting professionals.
Which cities in California have the most accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and San Jose lead in volume, driven by the concentration of technology and venture-backed companies requiring sophisticated accounting teams. Los Angeles is strong for entertainment industry accounting and large public company finance roles. San Diego has a growing biotech and life sciences sector that regularly sponsors international accounting professionals. Sacramento hosts state government contractors and public-sector accounting firms.
What types of accounting roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B requirements typically include positions that normally require at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. In California, commonly sponsored titles include staff accountant, senior accountant, financial reporting analyst, internal auditor, tax associate, and forensic accountant. General bookkeeping or clerical roles without a degree requirement generally do not meet the specialty occupation threshold.
How do I find accounting H-1B sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by visa type, state, and industry to surface accounting roles in California where employers have an established history of filing H-1B petitions. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that may not sponsor. Migrate Mate's job board covers roles across the Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, and other California markets.
Are there any California-specific considerations for accounting H-1B sponsorship?
California does not impose additional state-level restrictions on H-1B employment, but a few practical factors matter. The state's high cost of living affects prevailing wage determinations, which can make California H-1B filings costlier for employers. California also prohibits employers from passing H-1B legal fees onto employees under state labor law, which is stricter than federal minimums. CPA licensure in California has specific educational requirements that international applicants should verify with the California Board of Accountancy.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B accounting jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
