Which sports companies sponsor H-2B visas in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts H-2B sponsors in sports and recreation include ski resorts in the Berkshires such as Jiminy Peak, golf courses across the South Shore and Cape Cod, and stadium and arena operations supporting Boston-area venues. Marine recreation operators on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard also file H-2B petitions for seasonal deck hands and waterfront staff. Sponsorship history varies by employer and season, so confirming active filings before applying is worthwhile.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most sports H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Boston concentrates the most sports operations roles, driven by professional venues and year-round athletic facilities. The Berkshires region, including Hancock and Pittsfield, sees strong demand during ski season at mountain resorts. Cape Cod and the Islands generate summer peaks for golf, boating, and outdoor recreation employers. Worcester and Springfield also have recurring H-2B filings tied to indoor sports complexes and seasonal recreation programs.
What types of sports roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
H-2B sponsorship in sports covers temporary nonagricultural roles that are genuinely seasonal or tied to a one-time event. Common qualifying positions include ski patrol and lift operations, golf course grounds crew, marina and watercraft staff, sports facility maintenance workers, and event setup and operations crews. Roles must be temporary in nature, and employers must demonstrate that qualified U.S. workers are unavailable for the positions being petitioned.
How do I find sports H-2B sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings specifically for H-2B visa sponsorship in Massachusetts, including roles in sports and recreation. Because H-2B employers must file Labor Condition Applications with DOL, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified sponsorship activity so you can focus on companies that have actually petitioned for H-2B workers rather than guessing at sponsorship willingness. Searching by state and visa type narrows results to relevant seasonal sports roles.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-2B sports jobs in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts enforces its own wage and labor standards that apply alongside federal H-2B prevailing wage requirements, so employers must meet whichever standard is higher. The state's short ski season and concentrated summer recreation window mean H-2B petition timing is tight, with many employers filing months before the season opens. Workers should confirm the petition start date matches the employer's actual season, as USCIS scrutinizes whether the temporary need is genuinely tied to Massachusetts seasonal patterns.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B sports jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
