INTRODUCTION
We are hiring for a Business Analytics Analyst in our Analytics Center of Excellence (ACoE) – the power hub of analytics for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
This is a great opportunity to make a unique but powerful impact using your exploratory analysis skills and expertise in statistical methods to determine what types of programs should be pursued, to solve problems and/or capitalize on new opportunities.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Business Analytics Analyst, you will help develop hypotheses and data analysis plans to determine the best approach for conducting descriptive analytics, create savings models, evaluate program outcomes, and size potential opportunities.
- Translate business ideas into testable hypotheses with guidance.
- Contribute to statistical analyses and data visualizations based on the broader analysis plan.
- Explore and interpret data patterns to evaluate program and business hypotheses.
- Query and manipulate both structured and unstructured data to support analysis.
- Help distill analytical findings into actionable insights for business decision-making.
- Use approved generative AI tools, when appropriate and in accordance with policy, to support coding, documentation, and summarization, while ensuring accuracy and quality.
Responsible for analyzing data to inform key strategic business decisions. Under general supervision, performs descriptive analyses, develops savings models, and evaluates program outcomes and size potential opportunities.
- Support the translation of business ideas to working hypotheses.
- With supervision, produce statistical analyses and visualizations from the broader analysis plan.
- Identify and analyze data patterns to test business and program hypotheses.
- Perform data querying and manipulation of structured and unstructured data sets.
- Support the synthesis of analysis results into insights for business decisions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, Informatics, Epidemiology, Biostatics, Data Science, or other related field is required. Master’s degree or PhD in related field is preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of related work experience.
- Previous experience programming (at least one language) is required.
- Previous experience working in the healthcare industry is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of how health care claims are billed and how the health system works.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge about different evaluation study designs (i.e., case-control, cohort), methodologies for controlling for population differences in studies (i.e., regression analysis, propensity score matching), and programming (SQL, SAS, R or Python).
- Basic knowledge of statistical testing techniques (i.e. ANOVA, t-tests, chi-squared, etc.).
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Access, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Ability to effectively interface and present to management at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
