Who We’re Looking For
Toyota’s Technician Development and Tools (TDT) Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Research and Development Technician. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation, ensuring our advanced vehicle systems are safe, reliable, and ready for the future of mobility.
What You’ll Be Doing
Imagine starting your day collaborating with a talented team, where your expertise keeps our cutting-edge test vehicles and facilities running at peak performance. Success in this role means driving innovation, ensuring safety, and making a measurable impact on Toyota’s ADAS/ADS development.
- Own the maintenance and safety of IVS test vehicles and facilities, ensuring seamless operations
- Retrofit and optimize ADS/ADAS sensors, data acquisition systems, and specialized equipment for maximum performance
- Lead and execute public road and closed course evaluations, delivering actionable insights on ADAS/ADS system performance
- Analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions that drive continuous improvement
- Foster a culture of safety and teamwork, supporting the Automated Technician Group and collaborating across departments
What You Bring
Set yourself up for success with these valued qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or academic field, or equivalent work experience (4+ years) that provides a strong foundation in vehicle systems and technology
- Experience using data acquisition equipment to capture and analyze critical performance metrics
- Proven ability to troubleshoot vehicle systems remotely via phone or video conference
- Hands-on experience updating vehicle systems software and verifying functionality
- Skilled in interpreting electrical systems drawings, specifications, manuals, and wire diagrams
- Proficiency with OBD (On Board Diagnostic) and CAN (Controller Area Network) tools for system diagnostics
- Expertise in using hand and shop tools to build test fixtures and assemble/disassemble vehicles
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel (30–50%)
- Ability to work independently or lead a team, demonstrating initiative and collaboration
