Which construction companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Minnesota?
Minnesota-based firms with documented visa sponsorship history in construction include Mortenson Construction, Ryan Companies, Kraus-Anderson, and Braun Intertec. Large engineering-construction crossovers such as WSB and Bolton & Menk also hire STEM OPT candidates for roles in civil engineering and infrastructure. Sponsorship activity varies by project volume and role type, so confirming LCA filing history with DOL disclosure data is advisable before applying.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most construction F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul account for the majority of construction STEM OPT sponsorship activity in Minnesota, driven by ongoing commercial, infrastructure, and transit development projects. Rochester sees demand tied to large healthcare construction programs, including the Destination Medical Center initiative. Duluth and Bloomington offer secondary opportunities, particularly in civil infrastructure and commercial real estate development roles with technical degree requirements.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT must be tied to a STEM-designated degree program. In construction, this includes positions in civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management with a qualifying degree, BIM coordination, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, and estimating analytics. General field superintendent or non-technical project coordination roles may not qualify unless the employer can demonstrate the position requires STEM-specific knowledge and degree alignment.
How do I find construction F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate filters construction job listings in Minnesota specifically for employers with F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship history, using DOL Labor Condition Application data to surface companies that have actively sponsored STEM workers. This removes the guesswork of identifying willing sponsors from scratch. Search for civil engineering, BIM, estimating, or construction technology roles in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area to find the highest concentration of verified sponsoring employers.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Minnesota's construction industry?
Minnesota requires E-Verify enrollment for state and local government contractors, which intersects with F-1 STEM OPT work authorization requirements since STEM OPT employers must be enrolled in E-Verify as a federal condition. Many large Minnesota construction firms already meet this requirement through public works contracts. Additionally, licensed professional engineering roles in the state require a Minnesota PE license, which is separate from visa status and typically takes years of post-graduation experience to obtain.
